We Have a Dam Problem

Americans have a complicated relationship with dams. On the one hand, they allowed our population to expand into the American West, transforming arid regions into land that supports agriculture, industry, and development. In the “decade of dams” from 1960 through 1969, the Army Corps of Engineers along with private companies built more than 22% of the nation's dams. A staggering 18,690 dams were constructed in that era, more than any other time in our nation’s history. However, over the years, the environmental degradation caused by dams (increased salinity, nutrient disruption, sediment buildup, and more) has taken its toll.  Read More

India Water Project a Resounding Success

A portion of the funds raised from the 2013 2nd annual Reel Water Film Festival were donated to a water project in Kamagiri, India. In February 2014, our Logistics Director, Mandy Pereira, and a team of volunteers from our partners at Journey's Crossing, visited the site to help finish the project.   Read More
